In response to the names given to housing sub-divisions, such as "Meadow Brook", or "The Crossings", we came up with the following list of sure to be rejected names for sub-divisions. It seems that these days there are a lot of these places being called in the singular; "The (insert name here)". These are particularly annoying, and deserve to have much scorn heaped upon them above the normal amount of recreational ridicule.

1. Toxic Brook

2. Cannery By The Bay

3. Musty Viejo

4. Cinder Block Estates

5. Double Wide Acres

6. Itching Vines

7. Smelter View

8. Pasture Waft

9. The Dumpings

And an especially irritating trend of late is to have names for smaller areas of sub-divisions within a larger sub-division as a whole, following the naming formula of "The Oaks at Forest Glen", etc.

10. Chumwater at Cannery By The Bay.

11. MoistWind at Musty Viejo (another annoying trend, 2 words combined for a name, i.e. MoistWind)

12. Tire Hills at The Dumpings

13. DampValley Crossing at Pasture Waft

14. Septic Glen

15. SkeeterWood

16. Deer Tick Meadows

I will be on hiatus for a while. Somebody will fill in, I'm sure . . . eventually?

be good.

Heard from a friend of mine today whom I have not seen for some time, Lex Leonard Olson, a.k.a. "Skando". Many years ago we spent an overly generous amount of time coming up with various "lists" for various topics. An example would be when we looked at some mail order catalogues from companies that used really snotty sounding names to describe the color of the clothing they were selling. For instance, a GRAY sweater wasn't really just gray, instead, it was Welsh Oatmeal Heather. You get the idea. So, we came up with a list of rejected color names for these various mail order catalogues from the likes of L.L. Bean, J. Crew, etc. Here are a few of them:

Our suggested name---------------- Actual color

1. cardboard---------------- light brown

2. tire---------------- black

3. specimen--------------- yellow

4. pepto--------------- pink

5. haggis--------------- brownish red (or reddish brown)

6. phlegm--------------- green

7. scab--------------- dark red

8. doug--------------- plaid

9. t-shirt--------------- white

10. sweet-tart--------------- bright orange

Another list from the past tomorrow. RGNC'ers, please, don't rush so fast to respond or offer your own posts, the volume has been so heavy lately...

be good.
