Hello (...ello...ello...) Is anybody out there (...out there...out there) ? The echoed voice of the lone blogger prompts no return greetings...

And now, for the weekly update (he thought as he typed to himself). OK, where to start...told you about new york...told you about "The Mutt"...mentioned the breakup of Janitor School during last Saturday night's gig in Boston...well gee, that just about covers it. Good night ladies and gentlemen! Be sure to tip your waitresses and bartenders and for crying out loud, drive safely!

Came across some new music this week that I would like to recommend. A really enjoyable CD of acoustic guitarists playing in the clawhammer style usually associated with the b*njo. It sounds great when its used on the guitar for old-timey tunes and fiddle tunes. One of the guys on the CD, Steve Baughman, even has a web site (see links column-->) that you can visit to hear recordings of how this stuff sounds. So go there. To the web site. Or not.

Also, heard some recordings of Keith Jarret this week, which prompted to me to hit amazon for an impulse purchase of a 2 CD live recording. He records concerts of solo piano improvisation and let me tell you, they sound so much beyond a lot of the crepe that gets passed off as jazz or classical music these days. (Initiate rant mode)And by the way, when will any critic have the huevos to come out on the record and say something like, "Hey folks, don't know how to break this to you, but just like pop music, about 90% of jazz, classical, blues, reggae, "world music", "new age", jam bands, country; especially country!, well, as I was saying, about 90% of all of it, um...how you say in your country: reeks!"

(Exit rant mode) And also, I would be remiss in not pointing out some very impressive Hawaiian slack key guitar music by Keola Beamer, who also now inhabits linkland to your right, and again I say: visit. Or not.

Had a good talk with former Springfieldian, Kyle Donaldson Ph.D.. Many of us have played in a variety of musical combos with Kyle at one time or another. He is now living down in Louisiana and is quite successful doing some important and necessary work for the "gubment". Hope to see him relatively soon; maybe even tap him for the upcoming summer recording schedule.

I'd tell you to be good, but I don't even think your out there anymore.
