"..but I think I see a soft blue light at the end of this tunnel I'm in". Per the Country Gazette boys. I won't even try to explain the how or why of this, but ye olde RGNC blog seems to be some sort of cosmic magnet for fragmentary markers of existence. Not infrequently, my jaw drops as one contributor or another "seems" to toss out one of those little darts that lands squarely on a memory bullseye. I'll give one example for now, but I reserve the right to revisit the subject. In my relatively limited experience as a musician, I have only performed one vocal number in a formal performer/audience environment. It was that classic bluegrass tune, For What it's Worth by the venerable bluegrass band, Buffalo Springfield. Hey - if the Undergrass boys can cover the Stones, then Poverty Flatts can cover Buffalo Springfield. At any rate, Dave's lament from Friday touched on those lyrics. I was glad to see the words, but sorry for the circumstances that brought them about. I'm sure I/we will find out more later. On the bright side, it got me on the phone with Brother Dave, urged on by my lovely bride. This was a good thing. We almost got to hook up Saturday, but we will settle for a rain check. It is my understanding that wheels are turning in an effort to bring some of the members hereof together. Hot dang! Can't wait, folks. Can't wait.
As I mentioned a short time ago, we did the vacation thing this past week. As Mr. Mark made a pilgrimage to some of the remarkable locations associated with our faith, I made a journey to the mother church of country music. We had the opportunity to see Dr. Ralph Stanley at the Ryman. That would have pretty much been an experience to remember, but he was able to coax Alison Krauss onto the stage, who inturn invited the Whites up. Dr. Ralph led "the four" of them in a unique rendition of Amazing Grace. Yeppers. Don't get that kind of action everyday.
Anyhoo, looking forward to the gathering.
Be happy and careful
